Samoan Language Symposium
American SAmoa Community College
July 22-23, 2020
Greetings and welcome to the Third Annual Samoan Language Symposium. This year, Samoan Studies Institute at the American Samoa Community College, is excited to host this annual gathering of students, educators, practitioners and advocators for Samoan heritage - or Faasamoa. The theme for this year is "E lele le toloa ae ma'au i le vai", loosely translated as "The toloa bird may fly to greener fields, but will always return to the water where it was nurtured". Likewise, this symposium is an opportunity to return or to visit Samoa, and hear from Falesefulu and Manu'atele based speakers, who will continue what the previous symposiums established - a reminder of returning to the basics, of the importance of being grounded in faasinomaga, and still be relevant in a global society.
The two day symposium will focus on four main categories:
Teaching the Samoan Language
The different aspects of language - with a look at the arts
Challenges and solutions
The Future of our language
SYMPOSIUM is FREE.
Registration is for seating arrangement and symposium communications
A Registration Form MUST be completed for EACH participant.
